Want to know more? Here’s a little Q & A…
Why did you choose to be a PT/PTA for your profession?
I chose to be a Physical Therapist because I love learning about the human body! It’s the only thing that everybody has in common, and I love having a career that lets me explore anatomy while at the same time making meaningful and rewarding changes in the lives of patients.
What’s something that has surprised you about your chosen career path?
I didn’t realize how specialized a skillset that PTs have. We have a job with knowledge and skills that most other people don’t know or practice and it’s so rewarding to be able to share that knowledge with my patients.
If you weren’t a PT/PTA what you be doing, especially if salary wasn’t a concern?
I’ve always had a dream to start my own bakery or live on a farm full of flower gardens.
What’s the biggest misconception people have about your position?
That I enjoy making people feel in pain! Patients often joke that PT stands for “pain and torture” but I actually feel terrible when my patients are uncomfortable. It’s motivation for both me and my patient to get them better as quickly as possible!
What energizes you at work?
Seeing patients return to doing what they love pain-free without the need for surgery or more invasive interventions. Also, desserts and treats from patients always make my day instantly better!
Most important advice you give your patients?
If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.
What is one thing that instantly makes your day better?
Getting outside for a walk or run instantly improves my mood, especially if it’s a nice sunny day – but I also love the rain!
What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
My parents often ask “What do you want to try first?” This has given me a lot of perspective when I’m feeling overwhelmed with decisions, and at the same time encourages me to continue trying new things.
Where would you be right now if you had zero obligations and money didn’t matter?
On a tour of Italy! I studied abroad in the Spring of 2020 but unfortunately, my trip was cut short. I would love to go back to see the places I didn’t get to and eat more delicious food.
What’s one habit you’re trying to form (or un-form)?
I have a major sweet tooth, so I’m trying to limit myself to no more than one sweet treat a day.
What are you passionate about?
Trying new things. Over the past few years, I have taken up swimming, mountain biking, triathlons, and various projects I have no experience with. It’s a way to keep life interesting and grow personally.
What’s your favorite place locally?
I grew up in Lancaster, so my ideal day would be going to Central Market, the Fulton Theater, and Pine View Dairy. I’ve also had a Hershey Park season pass for the past few years, I love the roller coasters!
Are you reading or binge-watching anything right now?
I’m currently re-watching The Office with my husband, Dain, who has never seen the show before!
What’s your favorite tradition (holiday or otherwise?)
My family has a tradition of sleeping by the Christmas tree in the days leading up to Christmas, but especially on Christmas Eve. Another favorite is when my extended family plays backyard soccer on holidays when we are all together.
Favorite Sport to watch? Who’s your team?
Soccer! I grew up playing, and have been following the Philadelphia Union for the past 10 years. I take every opportunity I have to see a live game!
What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
I grew up watching The Amazing Race, and a few years I bought a manual car so that I would be prepared if someday my sister and I go on the show.
How do you like to start or end your day?
I enjoy a slow morning. It makes me feel more energized throughout the day when I have an hour or so to relax and drink a cup of coffee before starting my busy day.
What makes you laugh?
Basically, any funny video involving a cat.
What’s on your bucket list?
My husband Dain and I have a goal of visiting every state park in Pennsylvania, and hopefully seeing every National Park as well.
What do you do for fun?
I find fun in a lot of different things but I enjoy anything involving friends and being outside such as running, hiking, biking, and hammocking.
