What makes Abbie special?
Abbie brings a global background and a genuine enthusiasm for patient care to her role as a Physical Therapy Aide and Administrative Assistant. She grew up in Uganda, East Africa, before coming to the U.S. to attend Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. Her warm, people-first spirit makes every visit a welcoming one, and her background gives her a real head start in supporting our therapists and patients.
Abbie has hands-on rehab experience, having worked as a Rehabilitation Technician at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital, where she assisted therapists in patient care and discovered how much she loves the interactions with both patients and the therapy team. She’s now working toward becoming a Physical Therapist Assistant, and joining HARTZ gives her the chance to build valuable experience in the outpatient setting as she pursues that goal. She’s a quick learner who thrives in a fast-paced, patient-oriented environment.
Outside the clinic, Abbie met her husband at Bob Jones and married him this past June. She’s close with her family, including her two siblings and sister-in-law, and enjoys reading, traveling, spending time outdoors, and gathering around the table for a good board game.
Want to know more? Here’s a little Q & A…
Why did you choose to be a PT/PTA for your profession?
I love helping people in need. I love to see change and goals met. Being in the healthcare professions gives me an opportunity to serve people with needs and see them meet the goals they have.
If you weren’t a PT/PTA what you be doing, especially if salary wasn’t a concern?
If I could be in another work field and money wasn’t an issue, I would love to be a pilot. I have always loved flying and wanted to get my pilot’s liscense for a very long time. Making my passion a career would be so fun!
What energizes you at work?
Coffee! I love coffee, but honestly energy from other people energizes me. I tend to mimick the energy given off by other people. And if someone is having a hard day, I try to be positive and joyful around them to energize them too!
Most important advice you give your patients?
Progress starts with a positive attitude. If you are not willing to put the work into change, you will never see the change. But having a positive attitude and working hard leads to improvement!
What are your hobbies?
I love to read, be outdoors (whether its on a walk, hike, or bike ride), and play board games. I also enjoy cooking, making homemade coffees, and hanging out with friends.
Are you reading or binge watching anything right now?
My husband and I are watching through Friends right now, and I am reading through the Harry Potter series for the first time.
Favorite Sport to watch? Who’s your team?
I really enjoy watching college football. I am an Alabama football fan!
What’s one item you can’t leave home without?
My chapstick!
What’s your favorite meal of the day?
My favorite meal is dinner. It’s the most fun to cook, and it’s the meal I get to spend the most time with husband.
What’s on your bucket list?
I would love to go skydiving and travel around Europe on the trains and visit different countries.
