Active Release Techniques (ART)

A patented soft tissue technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves

ART is a versatile soft tissue management technique that can aid in the recovery of tendinitis, bursitis, chronic stiffness, and more. Muscles and tendons often thicken and tighten after injury, which can lead to decreased circulation, decreased ROM and altered biomechanics. As these tissues thicken, they become resistant to standard stretches and are often sensitive to tension. ART can quickly restore function to the affected area. ART is producing extraordinary functional outcomes with our patients.

Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The ART  provider uses his hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles,  fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.

These treatment protocols, over 500 specific moves, are unique to ART. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. ART is not a cookie-cutter approach.

Appropriate for patients with:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Back Pain
  • Carpel Tunnel Syndrome
  • Shin Splints
  • Shoulder Pain
  • Sciatica
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Knee Pain

Testimonials

I came to physical therapy because I was experiencing pain in my right foot arch while training for an Ironman triathlon. Through the use of ART treatments, Hayden relieved that pain and helped me avoid additional injury. Race day was pain-free!
