Finding Time to Exercise

News & Updates

We know it can feel impossible to fit one more thing into your already busy day.  After all, who has the energy for that? But as we all know, squeezing in some time for exercise is extremely important to your overall physical health and mental well-being.  The question is…how?

Here a few suggestions to try to sneak in a few minutes of exercise:

Start Small:  No need to start with an entire hour long workout right after getting up,
instead you can set your alarm 10-15 minutes earlier to sneak in a small morning exercise
routine.  Whether that be a few morning stretches, yoga or some simple body weight workouts such as jumping jacks, squats, crunches and pushups, something to get your heart rate up!

Move During Work:  Take a few minutes to eat your lunch and then spend the rest of your lunch break moving!  There are lots of easy movements you could do that require no equipment:
● Take a Walk around the neighborhood
● Squats, Lunges, Glute bridges, Donkey kicks
● Bicycles, Crunches, Planks, Spidermans
● Mountain climbers, Jumping jacks, High knees, Side shuffle
● Yoga/Stretching

Workout While You Sit: If you do a lot of desk work, consider replacing your chair with a physio ball for a portion of the day.  When you are sitting on it, your body is constantly trying to balance itself, and this helps to focus on better posture, as well as helping to strengthen those core muscles!

End of Day Finale Add some exercise at the end of the day. It’s very tempting to just go home and relax after a long work day. Again, just 10-15 min of exercise to boost that sluggish feel after the day can easily improve your mood for the evening as well. In addition, this brief period of activity will help alleviate stress and improve sleep (Bonus!). Add that to your 10-15 min of exercise from the morning, you’ll already have a total of 30 minutes throughout the day!

Happy Exercising!!
